- Our inaugural walk was held on the 26th of July 2014, and the main objective was to raise funds for the construction of a Creative Learning Centre, which would house a Carpentry Workshop and a Library at Sese Primary School.
- The organizers with the incredible support of volunteers managed to register over 400 walkers (individuals and corporate) and sourced sponsorship / partnerships from different companies.
- An estimated amounted amount of BWP75, 000.00 was raised to build the Carpentry Workshop, purchase tools and equipment as well as a mobile unit that serves as the school’s library to date.
- The second walk was held on 30th of July 2016 and the main objective was to support sustainable educational projects and disadvantaged Children within Jwaneng / Mabutsane Region.
- It was a resounding success and over 1,300 participants from Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho and Zimbabwe walked through the desert sands around Jwaneng in the name of charity and promoting the country’s unique tourism offerings.
- An amount of BWP160, 000.00 was raised of which BWP150, 000.00 went towards equipping a Resource Centre which benefits 19 Primary Schools in Jwaneng-Mabutsane Region, while BWP10 000.00 was donated to support Operation New Xanagas (ONX) Charity Drive. The main aim of the movement is to at assist all vulnerable orphans and underprivileged students at New Xanagas Primary School in the Ghanzi District.
- The walk was held on the 29th of July 2017 and over 2,000 participants from Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Australia and Germany.
- A sum of BWP235, 000.00 was raised and handed over to the Honourable Minister of Basic Education Unity Dow on behalf of 14 Primary Schools in Jwaneng / Mabutsane. Out of the raised funds, a sum of BWP195,600.00 was set aside for the early childhood teaching program, BWP20, 000 was given to Khakhia Primary School for the development of chess their program and a further BWP20, 000 was given to Sese Primary School to continue addressing their needs within the school.
- Further 5 computers were donated to Morwamosu Primary Schools.
- The 2018 Walk was held on the 28th July 2018 and over 2,700 participants registered.
- CSI-Concepts FOUNDATION in conjunction with The Desert Bush Walk Local Organizing Committee has handed over BWP 200,000.00 (Two Hundred Thousand Pula) towards the construction of a reception classroom at Kanaku Primary School in Jwaneng-Mabutsane Region.
- The 2019 Walk was held on the 27th July 2019 and over 3000 participants registered.
- In 2019 Walk the CSI Concepts Foundation Board resolved that, the Beneficiaries will not only be confined to the Jwaneng-Mabutsane area only, but across the country where there is a need, and therefore benefiting all sectors, not only education.
- Therefore, we had many beneficiaries for the 2019 walk.
• One of our selected beneficiaries was Thabi* (not real name) who was then a 14 years old girl and doing Form One at Lestsopo Junior Secondary School in Lobatse. She is confined to wheelchair due to a condition known as “Amelia” (born with no legs or arms). This means Thabi can’t feed herself, bath herself or dress up on her own. She cannot even take herself to the bathroom. In partnership with Diamonds for Hope we bought her a modern electronic wheelchair at a cost of P130 713,60
• Letsopa Primary School Students: Assist Tlhabi with her educational needs (Movable Chair, Study Table and Bed) and other needy children at the school (shoes, trousers & shirts)- P15 000,00
• Kedia Primary School:Partnership with Boteti Warriors Orgainisation for their Adopt-a-School project at Kedia Primary School. Jungle Gym & school Toilets- P60 000,00
• Sese Primary School: Sponsor 2019 Prize Giving Ceremony- P10 000,00
• Ramaphatle Primary School:Promote reading Culture Project at the School: Sponsor reading books for the school- P20 000,00
• Mogale Junior Schondary School; he school has a lot of needs as a boarding school-P15 000,00
• Embrace Emotions Support Network (EESN): was formed by Batswana youth in 2016 as an NGO, to focus national attention on mental health problems and mental illnesses. Teenage Suicide and Mental Health Awareness Country Tour..The target group for this workshop is children aged between 13-19years, most of whom are in secondary schools-- P15 000,00
NOTE: Due to Covid 19 The Desert Bush Walk did not take place from 2020 – 2021. However, CSI Concepts continued to contribute towards
charitable causes including a donation of P20 000 to the National Covid Fund.
- The 2022 Walk was held on the 30th July 2022 and over 3500 participants registered. BWP 180,000.00 was raised and donated towards about 12 beneficiaries throughout Botswana including schools, youth empowerment organizations, sport movements and trusts.
- The 2023 Walk was held on the 29th July 2022 and over 3700 participants registered. BWP 450,000.00 was raised and donated towards about 16 beneficiaries throughout Botswana in different sectors, amongst them education, community developments by different organizations, youth empowerment organizations, sport movements, social welfare programs, and projects dealing with Non-Communicable Diseases.
- The Desert Bush Walk is one of the biggest and well-known Walks hosted in Botswana at present. This annual walk is not only popular in Botswana but popular across Southern Africa. For the past 7 years the annual Walk has attracted participants from Botswana, South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Australia and Germany.
- The Desert Bush Walk is recognized as one of Botswana’s National events. The event is marked on the national events calendar by the Botswana Tourism Organization.
